Key Stage 3 – School Years 7–9
Key Stage 3 includes children in school years 7 to 9. We run separate groups for each school year for English and Maths.
Science lessons including Biology, Chemistry and Physics are available too.
English & Maths
To ensure your child is given the maximum attention, classes have six students maximum and are grouped by year. This 41-week programme follows all topics and methods taught in the new National Curriculum syllabus.
English
- Fluency in reading and writing
- Comprehension and best practice techniques
- Creative writing in first and third person
- Fiction and non-fiction writing – letters, instructions, recounts and biographies
- Literature – Shakespeare and novels set in the 1900s
- Poetry writing and analysis of techniques
- Persuasive writing – balanced arguments, advertisements and letters
- Essay writing – PEE structure
Mathematics
- Numbers – negative numbers, standard form, indices etc.
- Operations – addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, BODMAS
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
- Measurement – time, length, weight, capacity and money, including conversions
- Algebra
- Geometry and space
- Data handling – bar and line graphs, Venn and Carroll diagrams, probability and statistics
- Identifying properties of 2D and 3D shapes, transformations, reflection and rotation
